2. USS NAUTILUS – THE FIRST NUCLEAR PIONEER

Made exclusively for the European launch of SCS Dangerous Waters, presents the historic film that reveal the amazing story of the submarine USS Nautilus (SSN 571):

In July of 1951 Congress authorized construction of the world's first nuclear powered submarine. On December 12th of that year, the Navy Department announced that she would be the sixth ship of the fleet to bear the name NAUTILUS. Her keel was laid by President Harry S. Truman at the Electric Boat Shipyard in Groton, Connecticut on June 14, 1952. First, witness the launch of USS Nautilus – the world’s first “true” submarine, capable of staying underwater for months without refuelling or surfacing. At 11 a. m. EST on January 17, 1955, Commander Eugene P. Wilkinson USN, ordered all lines cast off and signaled the memorable and historic message, “Underway on Nuclear Power.” Nautilus broke many records and in 1958 became the first submarine to cruise underneath the North Pole. 3. EXTRA MISSIONS

"Red Storm Rising" Campaign This add-on campaign for Dangerous Waters, reworked for the European Release, is inspired by the Tom Clancy techno-thriller, "Red Storm Rising." In the height of the Cold War, the Soviet Union, faced with an imminent energy crisis, invades Western Europe. NATO's survival depends on securing the North Atlantic lifelines between Europe and the United States. In this campaign, the player will command Los Angeles-class nuclear submarines, FFG-7 frigates, P-3C Orion patrol aircraft and SH-60 helicopters against Soviet submarines, surface taskforces and bomber raids. The objective will be to wrest control of the North Atlantic from Soviet forces, defend the convoys bringing reinforcements to Europe and, ultimately, strike back against enemy forces in Iceland and the Kola Peninsula. The Red Storm Rising campaign consists of fourteen linked scenarios:

First Salvo Brief: The United States and Russia are on the brink of war in the Mediterranean Sea. This large scenario can be played from many different perspectives (P-3C aircraft, MH60 helo, FFG-7 frigate or Russian/US submarine platforms). Then, you will take on board an umpire, who will give you instructions during the exercise and adjudicate results. You can look forward to a wide variety of operations, from harbor reconnaissance to attacks against the USS Nimitz battlegroup. The exercise will culminate with an opposed amphibious landing on the eastern shore of Sardinia.
